Meet Edyta Sitar

Just a regular wednesday evening!!! But not at the Quilterspalet in The Hague.

From the USA was there Edyta Sitar, designer of fabrics for Moda, and making beautiful quilts and patterns, she owns her own company Laundry Baskets. Together with her husband she showed us several quilts and told her secrets ; ). Thanks Evy and Petra.

About Edyta
Edyta’s love for fabric began at a very young age- when she used her mother’s drapes to create her first fabric project!
Fortunately, for all of us, Edyta's mother recognized her passion for fabric and thus began her journey with fabric and sewing.
One of Edyta’s biggest blessings is her marriage to husband, Michael. She not only fell in love- she was introduced to a Sitar family tradition of quilting by her mother-in-law, Carol, and grandmother-in-law, Anna.

For the fifth time: Featherweight Day

Maybe you get bored with pictures of feather weights and food ..... well I think the feather weight is great.

Again a lovely day at Atelier Bep.
And a very special on it's the fifth meeting of the Featherweight Club.

Thank you Bep and Gerard for your great hospitality!!!!

Getting up very early on sunday morning 7 am, brr brr. But the weather forecast wasn't looking to good: wet snow, rain, more rain, snow. But what can stop a quilter from going to the Feather Weight Day? Maybe a hurricane.

It was a lonely sunday morningdrive over the high way: 1h40 minutes, the only other drivers were probably going to Bep as well.

It was really cozy, in her big kitchen, close to the stove, all those machines making nice noises...... and of course there was Francine (our technical expert) to help us with little problems. Like me, putting my needle the wrong way into the machine ; ).

I haven't finished my little project yet, but it's almost done. Most of the time I'm too busy chatting, walking around in her little shop and drinking tea with carrot-cake.

4. Featherweight Day: januar 2014 (with Diana and Dieuwke)
3.Featherweight Day: august 2014 (Dieuwkes birthday)
2. Featherweight Day: mei 2013 (with Marne)
1. Featherweight Day: june 2012 (Paco just died)

'Stormy' weekend

Preparations: Granny is coming!
There is a storm blowing over the Netherlands this weekend. Especially along the coast (where we live) the gale force is about  9.

But who care if you'are a quilter. Rob picked his granny up in Amsterdam to spend some quilting time in The Hague.

Quilthoeve in Naaldwijk

Granny want to make a 4 patch table-runner, but of course she didn't had the right fabrics. So we drove to the Quilthoeve in Naaldwijk. What a suprise, we met Ted Storm there.

Ted and granny
Ted Storm is probably one the most famous dutch quilters. In 2007 she won an important price in Houston with her quilt: Spring of desire (Bron van verlangen). The quilt is rarely seen at exhibitions, so it was real surprise to meet her at te Quilthoeve.

The quilt measures: 80 x 80. She found inspiration in the bridal handkerchief of her great-great grandmother. According to Holland's tradition a bride should carry a handkerchief when she gets married.

The entire is handmade, it took her four years to finish. What an inspiration is this quilt!!!

And there was Willy Alers, I didn't know her, but I admired the scrap quilt on the table. So I signed up for a workshop on saturday the 14th of March. You can make it by hand or machine. I think I will try to make it with machine. It's a very good quilt to use up all your scraps.

Granny bought this lovely rose fabrics, she gonna make a tablerunner with four patches.

Very busy!!!

Of course I also have several projects to keep myself busy. There is my 4-patch at the point. I made three bags for french bread. There are so funny to make. The one with the chicken is in my kitchen.

Two little quilts, little gifts for friends.

And you know what ...... quilting makes hungry.
