My masterpiece ; )

Originally, the term masterpiece referred to a piece of work produced by an apprentice of journeyman aspiring to become a master craftsman in the old European guild system.  Nowdays it refers to a creation, one that is considered the greatest work of a person's career.

I'm not sure if this is my masterpiece, but looking at this quilt  I think it's one of my best quilts I have ever made. And it feels very special,  because it's made from the traditional costume fabrics of Spakenburg.

It's good to have a blog to remember when I started this quilt, it was 15 july 2012. Well it will be a challenge to finish it before july 2014. I made the pattern myself, but for the applique I used the birds, flowers and leaves from the quiltbook "Birds of a feather.
The fabric for the back is also coming from Spakenburg.

Ï use a spoon to pick up the needle during sandwiching. This spoon I used for eating when I was a little girl.

Waiting to be quilted.

The purple fabrics are the mourning fabrics from Spakenburg. The flower fabric is from the shoulder part.
Anything else happening here in The Hague?  Well we were hosting the Nuclear Security Summit. That meant 58 worldleaders visiting The Hague. Closed roads, closed parcs, closed highways, lots of police, helicopters and military. At least for two days The Hague was the most safely place to live.
Like Obama said: It was truly "gezellig". He had some difficulties with pronouncing the "g". And no, you can't translate "gezellig", you can use it for many situations, a nice dinner with friends you can call "gezellig", or the decorations in your house are making your house "gezellig". It's one of those words we use lot here.

Sunny saturday in march

I was just reading my blogposts of march 2013.

Can you believe it, it was 4C and raining, raining and raining.

A week later there was snow on my birthday. And now I took my first sunbath of the year.

Poor Bonnie Huner, they have an icestorm going around the house.

LIttle bags for the hospital

It's amazing how quickly the days and week are passing. Last weekend I spend most of my time studying. This weekend it will be quilting and enjoying the lovely weather.

Today I made some hospital bags for the children. Emma brought my pirate fabric from England with her, I did send some fabric to her mum.

And a friend (Elaine M.) in Seattle did send me some lovely car fabric. Which is perfect for bags for little boys. So more hospital bags to make.

Tomorrow High Tea with my parents in the "Beeldentuin". You know Marne where the sandsculptures are.
