Little quilt

Busy, busy, work, work, measuring our new home, so we can order carpets and all that kind of stuff. Still have to wait till the 22th of septembre before we get the keys. Tuesday we had our quiltbee. It was really fun, Nicolette, Dieuwke and Alexine were there. We missed Willemijn, she was not feeling good. We did a lot of talk, talk, talk, and admiring each other work.

I'm busy with a little country quilt for the Exchange group.

Log Cabin part 9

The third border on the Log Cabin is almost finished. The size now is 1m18 x 1m18, but in the end it will be: 2m10 x 2m10. Tomorrow I'll start the 4th border, this will be two brown stripes and in the middle "squares in a squares", I have to make 68 blocks, 16 on each side and 4 in the corners. The 5th border (last border) will be rather simple, with just a "square in a square" in the corner. It's nice to have (quilt)friends you can ask for advise. Monday I discussed it with Jacqueline and last wednesday Evy helped me to pick the fabrics and to make a final decision how to finish the quilt.

I want to finish the top before I go the USA in september, maybe I'll ask the Northseaquilters to finish it quilting. So it can be on our bed in our new home end of october. In september/november we will be moving again.

Caffee Latte

Today it's mother's day in the Netherlands. In 1908 Anna Jarvis from West-Virginia had the idea for celebrating being a mother, and so from the USA it went to Europe. Now every 2th sunday in Mai we celebrate Mother's day. I made my mother a little quilt: Caffe Latte.

Lapjeskatten/Tortoiseshell cats

One of my first projects was this quilt, I started it in januar 2006, when I started quilting, and finished it in octobre 2006. I used a lot of my scrap fabrics, but I think I have still to much fabrics, but I believe that's a quiltersproblem.

At the moment it's hanging in Evy's Quiltshop. I'm thinking about making another one, a little bigger so I can use it on our bed. It's really fun making this cats, it's not a lot of work, and you can use all the fabrics you have.

Quiltbee

Every 2th thursday of the month we have our quiltbee at Evy's Quiltshop (Quilterspalet in Den Haag/ The Hague). You just take your own project with you, sit down, drink coffee or tea and have fun.

The red/blue quilt is from Yvonne, she made it from a jelly-roll, the back-side is made from fleeze, so it feels very warm and comfortable.

The Crazy Exchange Club is very fun. You never know when something arrives in your mailbox. Yesterday I found this beautyfull pinkeep, Wendy Jo made it for me. It's really lovely!!!

But that was not the only suprise because she also send me an american Patchwork Magazine. You can't get them here in Holland.

Now I have to think what to send back.

Back from Germany ......

After two emotional weeks (my grandmother died, Rob's results from cardiologue and buying a new house in The Hague) we went on holiday sunday the 27th april to Germany (Regensburg). Regenburg is our favorite city, because our friends Hubert and Sabine and their son Christopher live there. We know them for almost 11 years. Rob and Hubert were collegues long time ago.

We didn't stay with them because Paco and their dog Timmy don't like each other very much, so we rented a summerhouse in Kallmuenz, a beautyfull little village with lots of possiblities for walking and trekking http://www.kallmuenz.de/k/index.htm.

But first on sunday (after our arrival) "mittagessen" (lunch) together with "Helles und Radler" (German Beer, Radler is a mix from beer and 7-up.) Hubert took the Bayern speciality "Schweinehaxe" (pigfoot), not our favorite.

Holidays in Bayern always means a lot of eating. After breakfast, at the 12 h it's time for 'Mittagessen", a warm lunch (for us like dinner) with Beer, at 16h time for "Kaffee und Kuchen" (lots of cakes with coffee). And at 7hours just a little snack like pizza or pasta. I think we need a lot of balance weeks, as they say in Holland. On thursday we all visited Helmuth and Hildetrude they live in Selb (famous for porcelain) at the Czech-border. She made a lovely lunch/Mittagessen with deer-meat, Knodeln (German) and berries. Helmuth is a hunter in his spare time, so he can shoot his own food. And of course she made some home-made pies.

Most of our week we spend walking/trekking through the hills of Bayern/Kallmuenz.

Paco loved it very much, so in the evenings he was exhausted, because most of the times he walks twice the distance we do.

Big suprise in my mailbox

Look what I found in the mailbox today. Actually it wasn't in the mailbox because it was so BIG, our caretaker kept for me in his office, so after work I could pick it up.

I couldn't believe my eyes, there were 20 magazines in it, Marne collect them for me, from her quiltfriends. THANKS SO MUCH!! I'll share them with my quiltfriends here in Holland, so lots of people will be having fun with them. Lovely fabrics and other little presents. Marne put everywhere little blue notes, so I felt like a detective searching for them. Her friend Ronda send me a dog-fabric so I can finish my RR. I can't wait to meet you in septembre.

Bee bee bumble bee.......

At Rijswijk I bought this lovely patron of Lynette Anderson. This is the first bag I have finished, and no ready for number two. I put it in my kitchen, not sure what to use it for, but that doesn't matter. I have already a house full of things that doesn't serve any purpose.

Rag Quilt

In mai we (me and some of the members Quiltbee Putten) are going to make a Rag Quilt at the Quilterspalet. I love Ragquilts very much, they seem rather easy to make, all done by machine, and in a few days you can finish a quilt, instead of a few months. Some of my quilts took me more than a year to finish, I like doing handwork, but a quick project will be fun.

I decided to make a Ragquilt for my nephew Thomas. He is five years old, he likes blue, and his bedroom is also coloured blue. On one side I will use the light colours and the other side the dark colours. I can't wait to start.
